Bedeutung, usually translated into English as 'reference' is the most fundamental notion of Frege's philosophy of logic and language, rivalled in importance only by the concept of truth. The talk will try to identify the main doctrines surrounding Bedeutung and determine the multiple roles it plays in Frege's theory.
